Virtual Here and iLok on OSX 10.13 (High Sierra)

Hi,
I just installed virtual here server (v3.7.3) on a Synology NAS (with DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2 ) and it's not working with iloks on MacPro with osx 10.13 .
Is it a known problem ?
I can see ilok in the list, I can connect to it, but when I start ilok manager or protools for example, it freezes until I disconnect the ilok.
Then it report an error.

I should mention that it is working perfectly on a MacPro with osx ElCapitan (10.11.6)

Thanks !

It should be working fine on high sierra, i haven't had any reports of it not working. Can you install the latest ilok license manager and see if that fixes it.

#3

I tried, but it hasn't been concluent.
Always not working on high sierra, and I made a test with Sierra (10.12) and it's not working either.
I installed virtualhere_3.7.3_x86_64.spk on the NAS. It's a Synology RS2418RP+, is it the right installer ? In the Synology tab, the say paquet architecture is Denverton, but I can't find in your list.

I may also make a screen recording if you want and send in pm if you wanna see what's happening.

Thank you.

#4

Did you try on Mojave?

#5

Same problem.
iLok Manager freezes until I remove the iLok. Then the name appears for a brief moment then disappears.
I also installed virtualhere_3.8.2_denverton on the NAS (Synolgy RS2418RP+)

#6

Also, the link for the last denverton release (3.8.7) is broken.

#7

I fixed the download link.

What about trying to plug the ilok into a different port (preferably USB 2.0) or a USB 2.0 hub then into the synology?

#9

I just think its something wrong with your synology. Do you anything else you could run virtualhere server on like a raspberry pi or a pc or linux box? If so install virtualhere server on that and see if its ok then

#10

It's ok on a WIN10 pc. I would prefer to have it on my NAS ...
Is it normal the port n° is 17570 on the NAS ?

#11

The TCP port is 7575 for all platforms *except* for Synology.

Synology already has their replication service running on port 7575 so i had to change the default to 17570 on Synology.

Usually this is no problem except if you turn off Auto-Find in the client, then you will need to Specify the Synology hub colon 17570 to connect when you Manually Add the server ip by right clicking USB Hubs->Specify Hubs.

Hello,

I have the same problem, but with an QNAP Nas instead of Synology.

I tried two different Macs with Mojave and with High Sierra. Same behavior as SlyLaM. iLok Manager see the dongle only sometimes and only when disconnecting in Virtual Here client. Also Freezes when I close the iLok manager until I disconnect the dongle.

I tried two different Server versions. Newest 3.9.4 and 3.4.7 from QNAP, nothing changes with 3.9.4.

#13

But everything works when I use Windows 8.1 as an client, with same Configuration on the Server side. So the problem is not the QNAP USB port, its the macOS client.

#14

Im not sure of the issue but the osx client is not being updated for the time being, so it wont work.

#15

Hello,

with the same setup I also tried the eLicenser dongle. It is recognized by the eLicenser manager (not the same problem as iLok). But when I use it with Cubase I get a lot of eLincenser communication errors, wich not happens when the dongle is connected to the Mac directly.

#16

Hello,
we actually facing the same issue with iLok on OSX10.13. Server is an Ubuntu 18.04.

If we connet an iLok shared by a windows server the iLok works well on the OSX workstation. Unfortunately on windows it is not possible to power down devices per port so we are running in the "iLok sharing error".

Is there a chance to get this fixed in the near future?

#17

You mean to power cycle the ilok using a windows server? No thats impossible, windows doesnt support it. Only linux supports power cycling usb ports

#18

Sorry for the confusion. I want use an iLok (Gen2 and above) on Mac OSX High Sierra. The server is an Ubuntu. Power cycle works well but the iLok dont work on the Mac.
(iLok License Manager freezes, Pro Tools crashes...)

With Windows Server the iLok on Mac OSX High Sierra works well. I wonder if that issue is server or client related?

#19

It must be server related, are you using ubuntu natively ? I.e not in a VM as virtualhere server must run natively and not inside a vm. And what type of computer are you running ubuntu on?

#20

The server is a real desktop-pc with i7 sandybridge-cpu. I am using the latest sandybridge build (4.0.7). On the server are 16 hubs with 90 dongles (half of them iLok).

For testing i set up a second machine (i5 sandy bridge) with the linux trial build (4.0.8) with only 5 iLoks. All of them works as aspected. So i installed this version on the other machine, but nothing changed...

#21

I can give you a key for your i5 instead so you can try that as the server for the iloks? Im not sure of the issue, but sounds like a hardware issue specifically. Email me at mail [at] virtualhere.com (mail[at]virtualhere[dot]com)

#22

Hello Michael,
thanks for your offer but i have already purchased a second license for testing purposes. I can not risk to migrate everything to the second machine and finally run into the same problems.

To ensure production safety we wont use iLok (2nd,3rd gen) on mac over virtualhere for now. But we will give it a try again later (when the christmas season is over)

#23

Hi,
I have a similar problem on High Sierra: my iLok 1 works perfectly with the client, but when I start using my iLok 3, the iLok License Manager and Ableton Live are freezing until i stop using it.
Any idea?
Thanks

#24

What server are you using?

#26

Can you update the virtualhere app from here https://www.virtualhere.com/nas and see if that resolves it, if not i dont think its going to be fixable because osx is not being supported anymore

#27

Oh ok, maybe that needs to be mentioned on the homepage - I bought the license because I had the impression OSX is being supported :/ (And I bought it because I wasn't able to fix the problem within the 10 days trial period and thought the problem is on my end...)
The installed package version is 3.2.9 (= newest online version).

#28

Im not sure how else to express it, it says that on the link you click to download the client

"VirtualHere Client for OSX 10.9.5 / 10.10 / 10.12 / 10.13 / 10.14 (partial) / (10.15+ not supported)"

#29

I'm not using 10.15 or higher, we're talking about 10.13 High Sierra here. So it seems I'm not the only one facing that problem, is there a workaround? Is the MacOS the problem or Synology or iLok or VirtualHere or the combination or the version numbers? Wich combination or wich software versions is/ are working for VirtualHere and iLok 2 + 3? Would a Windows client and a Raspberry Pi for example be a better choice?

#30

Ah ok yes 10.13 should work with iloks. I suspect the synology is the issue both qnap and synology have old kernels.

Yes if you have a pi setup virtualhere server on it and give it a try. A pi is a much better choice also because you can power-cycle ports
