Hub drop-out after several day's use

Michael,

Thanks for all your assistance to date - and your speedy implementation of development ideas which make our lives much easier.

We've currently got a Synology DS216SE (dual usb 2.0 ports) with four StarTec 7-port powered hubs hanging off in a 2 x 2 daisy chain, providing 26 usb devices for share. We have 3 x 'professional' 20-port powered hubs on order to eventually provide 60 available ports.

Today, out of the blue, all the dongles became unusable/unreleasable. They were all still shown as available by the client, and a check of the server showed it was still running - the log i can access from within the Synology application page showed nothing strange.

When i restarted my client, the hub was not detected.

As i was about to leave the office for the day, I rebooted the Synology, restarted the clients and all seems ok.

I'm hoping this 'instability' is somehow related to the cheaper Startec hubs... but for any future occurrence, can you please direct me to the path where any potential logs may exist which i could check/email to you.

Thanks again

Richard

sounds like some issue with the synology kernel, what DSM version are you using?

Also, The synology logs are in /var/log when you ssh to the synology.
