ilok, protools, etc - sort of working

Hi,

Been very curious about this and have since purchased a Raspberry Pi and VH license. Unfortunately, despite working somewhat, currently it's not working for me quite as well as intended.

FTR I'm somewhat computer savvy, but I am a little out of my depth here.

I have 2 macs, a Mac Pro 2019 and a Macbook Pro 2018. Both on Mac OS 10.15.7 (i know, officially not supported).

I've had no issue setting up the Pi (4B) with the VirtualHere CloudHub, or accessing it via the WiFi network. I'm currently trying to get it working in a local setting, but would eventually like to take advantage using it in more remote situations later.

Currently I'm able to use locate and use the ilok on each machine independently fine, however I am running into issues beyond that. The first is ProTools does take a bit of time to load, maybe like 10 seconds, which is generally fine.
Secondly, once it's fully loaded past the splash screen I get the error:

"error, missing PACE authorization for Pro Tools. Please insert the necessary ilok or rejoin your cloud session before you are asked to save and quit Pro Tools. Ilok2 result frame has an invalid checksum". ProTools beyond that continues to load and operate fine. FWIW, when I try to run the server from one of the mac's that Pace error doesn't ever present.

With that being said now I am running into a more significant problem, I am unable to load a lot of plugins that require ilok authorization. The program hangs and spins the beach ball. The only way I've been able to proceed is by manually unplugging and re-plugging the ilok into the pi and reenable it from the list. Basically unusable if these conditions persist.

I did keep coming across "power switching the usb port" through the forum, so i don't know if that has something to do with this. I have tried all the ports, but the problem persists regardless of which port the USB is in so for now I'm stuck. Any help? Already spent $150ish just getting the pi and the license so I'm a bit disappointed to have gone through all this with little to no success.

Any ideas or help?

Thanks

No 10.15 is not supported. This should not be a surprise it says that on the download link for the mac client.

Apple has removed support for 3rd party kexts now. And 10.16 they are completely blocked. So its impossible for it to work. You can complain to apple if you want,i have many times but they don't care.

Anyway if you want to try 10.15.7 yes you do need to plug in the ilok into the top right usb 3 port on the pi4. Then when you stop using the ilok on one mac it will be power cycled automatically so you can use the ilok on another mac.

You can also power cycle the dongle if you want manually (instead of unplugging/replugging it) by making sure the ilok is in the top right USB port of the pi, right clicking on it and selecting Custom Event Handler... and entering

power_cycle_port

The dongle should momentarily disappear and then reappear and it should be usable again. This is essentially what the server does automatically when you stop using an ilok.

And lastly make sure you are using the latest ilok manager software from their website. They sometimes update their drivers so its worth getting the latest drivers

Thanks for the prompt response, Michael!

Good to know RE the port, I'll check it out. Bummer about the Mac OS stuff, I know they're pretty crap with those things. This is such powerful software. I'm determined to find a way to make it work!

Also, just to confirm there's no way to utilise a networked USB on two machines simultaneously with VH?

No, the reason is a USB device only has one plug so it was never designed for two places at once
