Automatically use ONE device from list?

Hi,

First of all, I'd like to say that I am massively impressed with this software. I had been looking at similar products, but this product appears to be by far the best, especially when it comes down to mass deployment.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I am trying to write a script which will allow a user to connect to ONE shared device from the list. I work at a college where we have a piece of software which requires a USB hardware licence (USB dongle). Most of the computers are laptops, and physically attaching these dongles to the laptops is not an option due to security. I'm looking to create a "Pool Licence Server" with VirtualHere, where a device can use ONE dongle from the list. I know that I can physically auto-use the Device/Port, but we have more PCs than we do licences and that is why I'm looking for a way to achieve this. What I'd like to do, is if a student wishes to use this software, then if there is a dongle not in-use, then the PC will automatically use it without student interaction with the VirtualHere client.

Again, I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'd greatly appreciate any help that I can get on this.

Richard Hughes

Hi Richard, so basically you mean to automatically use a similar device in the pool of available devices. No that functionality is not there

Hi Michael,

Would it be possible to set each client to "Auto-use" the shared USB licence dongles, and limit the number of shared devices per user/PC to one? I was trying to follow this guide - https://virtualhere.com/authorization, but I'm struggling to do this in the Windows environment. Would this approach allow me to force each PC to automatically use one shared dongle from the list? I was looking to implement this so that it would only run on the request of the software which requires the hardware licence.

Richard

No i dont think that would work, i think the best way is to name all your license dongles to specific names then tell the user to right click on that dongle and use it via virtualhere before they start their software program.
