How do I use VirtualHere?
1. Plug the device into a USB port on the NAS.
2. Run the Client for your Windows, Mac or Linux machine
3. You will see the device listed in the tree, right click on the device and select Use.
4. You can then use the device as if it was directly connected to your computer.
How does VirtualHere improve the functionality of my NAS?
The VirtualHere product allows you to plug USB devices into your NAS and use the device on a client computer, as if it was directly connected to that computer. It allows USB devices to be used on the network or over the Internet. For example you can plug in a security dongle and use it with any client on the network, or plugin a SDcard USB disk and have it available locally, including low level functionality such as format and repair. VirtualHere will enable you to share any multi-function printer/scanner using your NAS. USB devices may be directly used in virtual machines such as Virtualbox, VMWare and Hyper-V or even in the Cloud!.
What are the limitations of the trial version?
When you first install VirtualHere on your NAS it will be in trial mode. VirtualHere trial will only support 1 device being shared at a time, display a trial message when a client connects, and is time-limited to 10 days operation. If you find the software useful you can purchase a license from this website, that will remove these limitations.
How many people can use the same USB device simultaneously?
USB devices can only be used by one at person a time. This is due to a physical limitation of the USB protocol.
My Webcam does not work, is slow, or is taking lots of the CPU time when I'm sharing it, why is that?
Isochronous devices like webcams, microphones or TV sticks pass a lot of data through USB and hence use a lot of CPU time. Your NAS needs a modern and sufficiently fast CPU for good Webcam performance. If you find your webcam does not work or is slow, try reducing the resolution of your webcam. Usually a resolution of 320x240 or lower works.
My USB device does not work with VirtualHere can you help?
VirtualHere is compatible with most USB devices, we can try to get it working for you. Post a question in the support forum and our support staff will follow it up.
My NAS already does something special when I plug in a USB device, how does VirtualHere handle that?
VirtualHere USB Server will automatically allow any special event to occur (e.g a backup) without interfering with the operation, just like normal. Just make sure you are not using a disk via virtualhere when the backup is scheduled to occur because a USB disk cannot be used by VirtualHere, and locally by the NAS at the same time.
How can i see who is currently using a device?
Right click on the device in the client and select In Use Elsewhere.... That will show the IP address and name of the user.
Can i kick another user off a device so i can use it?
Yes you can, pass the --admin argument to the client to enter Administrator Mode. For example vhui64.exe --admin. Then right click on the device you want to use and select Disconnect from User.
Can i control who has access to what devices?
There is not yet a User Interface for this so you need to perform this configuration via a ssh shell to your NAS, See here for more information
How do i remotely access my iLok?
To remotely access your iLok, plug it into your NAS and it will appear in the client, then select "Use". It can be used as if it was directly attached to your machine. (If it says "iLok does not support network machines", remove and replug your iLok into your NAS and then select "Use" again)

What TCP port does VirtualHere use?
VirtualHere runs on a TCP port 7575, except for Synology based devices where the port is 17570
