Hello, I am using a usb c ethernet adapter on Mac and while it tries to connect, it eventually blows up and disappears. It is the Best Buy essentials adapter based on the RTL8135 chipset. I have tried it on Mac and on linux (pi) using a usb c to usb adapter with the same result. If there is no solution I am happy to buy a different known working adapter if anyone can advise on one that does fully work. Prefer it to work on Mac. (also yes, I am connecting on the devices through other means (tried wifi and wired) with same result. :/ Thanks for your attention.

Im not sure how this is related to VirtualHere...Do you mean you are using the USB adapter via VirtualHere by right clicking on it and selecting "Use" in the virtualhere client?
Yes, I am trying to forward…
Yes, I am trying to forward the usb c ethernet adapter to a shadow pc. This is to create a pseudo vlan with other devices on my internal network. It's used for virtual reality slimevr trackers. It's a pretty creative use of your tech. https://docs.slimevr.dev/tools/shadowpc.html

I think you should get a slow network adapter instead. E.g a 100Mbps or 1000MBps maybe on USB 2 because it might be trying to negotiate a 2.5G/B sec link which is way too much for the latency to Shadow.
