iLok Sharing Error

Hi Michael,

I'm having that issue with iLok sharing.

Is there anything I can do without having to VNC into my Raspberry Pi4 and rebooting it every time I want to use iLok on another machine?

It has worked previously, but not for a while now. However, my Waves licence key (USB dongle too) does work.

Regards,

Matt

Never mind. I think I've kinda got it sorted, but I have to run that script I was running previously, if my Pi reboots.

sudo uhubctl -1 1-1 -a 0

BTW, I have to use a hub and only USB Port 4 works at all (bottom one next to the LAN port.)

Yes im currently in the process of creating a simple/cheap/reliable USB power switching hub and will update my website when its ready..

Hey Michael!

I'm also getting the iLok sharing error when I want to switch between my iMac and my MacBook (Both on Ventura). Doesn't matter which way around.

The 2 iLoks are connected to my QNAP NAS (QTS 5.1.2). Unfortunately I have to physically unplug und plugin the iLoks on the NAS every time in order to switch between my Macs.

Is there any solution so far?

Regards,

Alex

Im currently working on the hub, it got delayed a few weeks with some hardware issues, so its being redesigned slightly. You could try one of these hubs that support uhubctl https://github.com/mvp/uhubctl but im not sure which one actually works well.  I have the MEGA4 which works ok.

The reason im creating my own hub is because i can be sure that it works and will stay in production. But i need to wait for the manufacturer to (re)design it.

I'm also having the Ilok Sharing error, Silver v3 USB A version, after PI problems (and lack of technical expertise) i've bought a NAS Qnap ts462 and a new licence to VH, using a mega4 connected to qnaps usb3 front port (and back no change). running over wired network, whether my macbook or ultra is the first connectort to the ilok on VH they can connect ,use, disconnect and use etc all ok. the 2nd computer will always show an Ilok sharing error after the 1st computer has used ilok and discconected. computers both running ventura 13.6.1  5.5.6 vh

After the sharing message on that computer the Ilok license manager which displays the status of your ilok account and all connected iloks WILL show the connected via VH ilok, however it will not launch protools, with the error. You cannot perform sync operations etc. The network is working ok as said i can connect whichever first to the ilok and run ok.

I suspect this sadly may mean it's not possible to swap  Ilok. The mega4 has two lights per port, only one of these the blue on goes out after disconnecting via VH. The ilok light goes out for a second or two but it doesnt seem to allow sharing, i note when the light comes back on the Ilok its a constant blue. however when it is first inserted, or reinserted (into same slot) it first has a short blue flashing sequence before going solid blue. So there's a difference between mega4 power off and phsyical power off. Crazy as it sounds could there be a physical sensor in the ilok!?

Another thing i noticed in case helps is physically if you plug the ilok in not the full way you get the constant flashing blue light, only turning solid blue when fully inserted.

As you always have to keep your ilok software up to date (new plugins will always install later versions) there's no way i can test if it is a later Ilok software problem, i did wonder if it was a "safety feature" to stop occasional usb hub dropouts , i suppose you could test with a longer power off?

any help welcome

EDIT; quick test on demo VH PI SD card, same problem with setup using mega4, to mac's only first connector can use ilok so not a qnap specific problem here i guess

Install 4.6.1 of the QNAP package by downloading it from here https://www.virtualhere.com/nas and it should be fixed.

Thanks Michael, 4.6.1 / mega4/qnap/ ventura combo as above now seems to work again after quick test today, noted both white and blue lights go out now on mega4 and ilok resets, quick reconnect to other machine and seems the sharing error is fixed in this setup, thanks for the speedy attention
