Trans Atlantic Speeds

I live in the US where my computer is located. When traveling to Europe and trying to mount my files under VirtualHere, one it took a huge a mount of time to mount, and worse, when it did, I was only getting kbs speeds. When doing these things in the US I get regular speeds. BTW, where I was I had the same fiber speeds as I had in the US. Internet speed was not a factor. What gives?

Latency is the issue not bandwidth.

Is there any remediation for this issue? Why does it happen across  the Atlantic but not 100 miles away?

#4

Because of the speed of the signal. Just read about it on Wikipedia
