centos 7: vhusbdx86_64 crashes on startup with return code 5

I'm trying to start vhusbdx86_64 on centos 7, with all the packages up to date.

It immediately exits, with an error code of 5.

The syslog contains the following:

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
