Run server as non-root user on Linux?

Hello,

Is it possible to run the server as a non-root user on Linux?

I'm thinking that it should be possible, provided the user has permissions to whatever files that the server requires to function.

When I try to start it, it gives me a permission error and tells me to run as root, but I'm wondering if it's just a simple uid check that fails, or whether it's failing to access some specific file that I can allow permission to.

Thanks!
