Hello,
Before purchasing virtualhere, I was trying out my devices. I am using Linux Server and Windows Client.
None of my HDDs get recognized on Windows client. It shows me the device but I get 'Unrecognised Device' when I try to use it.
It says "The USB device returned an invalid USB configuration descriptor." in Windows device manager.
I also tried SSDs (in External casing by JMicron) but they don't even get recognized by VirtualHere.
I am able to use USB flash drives.
HDD Vendor ID : 0x1058
HDD Product ID : 0x2627
Any help will be appreciated.
If all my devices work, I will purchase this software as this seems to be a very nice software.
Thanks
Update on further testing
It seems any device above USB2.0 doesn't seem to work.
The above HDD is working in USB2 port.
Any chance you would be getting in USB3.2 support soon ?
.
Virtualhere supports 3.2 but i think the jmicron adapters are problematic via virtualhere for some reason.
WD HDD on UBS3 not Working
I tried the WD (Western Digital HDD) with the following details :
HDD Vendor ID : 0x1058
HDD Product ID : 0x2627
Results :
USB 3.1 (Directly connected to Port, NO Hub) -> Not Working
USB 3.1 (Connected to HUB) -> Not Working
USB 2.0 (Directly connected to Port, NO Hub) -> Working
The problem seems to be with USB 3
Any way to make this work on USB 3 ? (Most of my devices are USB 3)
PS: the drive perfectly works in USB 3.1 when directly connected to my laptop instead of VirtualHere Server
.
Virtualhere works with USB 3.
USB 3 3.1 3.2 etc are all the same other than the speed. Note the speed is not too important via virtualhere because its still limited by the network latency/throughput.
The main difference between USB 2 and USB 3 disks is that there is an extra feature called Bulk Streaming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_Attached_SCSI
Virtualhere will support bulk streaming. Between Linux Server<->Windows Virtualhere client and Linux Server <-> MacOS Client.
What Operating system version are you using on the server side and client side?
Server Side : Alpine Linux 3…
Server Side : Alpine Linux 3.19
Client Side : Windows 10 22H2
PS: I know USB 3, 3.1 & 3.2…
PS: I know USB 3, 3.1 & 3.2 are similar, It was basically a typo when I mentioned USB 3; Please read 3 as 3.1 since my hub and port are both USB 3.1
.
OK im not sure of the issue, you might just be limited to USB 2 for some reason...
Any plans to have a Discount…
