I bought a big USB hub for VirtualHere (running on Raspberry Pi 3), but the device list doesn't show anything attached to it individually, just the hub itself. If I plug in directly or use a different hub then everything is OK. Do I need a specific type of hub, can anyone recommend a good 8+ port one?

Note: ive tested a AmazonBasics 7 port USB 3.0 hub with the pi and it wont work. So i suggest one of those in the link above
Thanks for your reply, I
Thanks for your reply, I actually have the 10 port version of the first one on the list, the Anker AH231. Is it possible the 7 port one works and this one doesn't? Seems unlikely. The strange thing is I see the device LED power on (it is a very low current draw device) but it doesn't show in the client. If I 'use' the hub, I don't see the device either.
Also want to add that another
Also want to add that another cheap crappy hub I have acts how it should (does not show as a hub in client, but shows all devices connected to it). I bought this new one for more ports.

you could try a usb 2.0 hub then plug the usb 3.0 hub into that
Well damn, I had no idea
Well damn, I had no idea there were issues with 3.0 hubs. Thanks for your support, I will try that suggestion.
