Hello, I wanted to try VH with Windows 10 as server and a Mac running Mojave as client.
Run server - OK
Run client - Ok, auto discovered the server and enumerated the devices that can be used (see below).
I chose eLicenser, and immediately some driver installation began on the Mac, but failed since an authorization for an "extension" was missing.
I eventually authorized it on System Preferences -> Security Privacy, but the installation was failed already, and I couldn’t re-instance it.
So when I try to use the e.licenser, I get : "There was a error using this device".
Now, connecting the Logitech mouse, it works indeed, but connecting the Western Digital disk, it binds successfully but no disk shows on the Mac ( as I expected...hope I got right the way it should work)
I don’t know if the disk not showing is somehow related to the initial error, but I really want to buy a working license for VH, but so far I can’t make it work with the e.licenser and the disk.
Michael, any idea ?
Tnx Andy

Try this server https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/default/files/usbserver/vhusbdwindk64… and let me know if that fixes the problem
Bingo, it did the trick, Well
Bingo, it did the trick, Well done Michael. You've got a new customer ! :-)
Now, I can imagine that this technology has its own limits, however I cannot have the WD Disk, nor The Roland USB Audio device on my MAC : in the client they shows as "In use by you" but there are no trace of them ( they are connected to the server , a Windows 10 Enterprise Edition : USB3 the Disk and a PCI Express USB2 port the Audio Device ). Keep in mind I have the panel/drivers natively installed for the Audio Device on the MAC )
Also on windows, the Disk doesn't show up with "windows 10 error : "The last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". Although the disk disappear and reappear regularly on the server, when connected/disconnected.
Are you interested in digging deep on it ? ( I'm willing to give my help and even give you access via TeamViewer if needed ), or am I too fool to think almost everything USB can be redirected...? ;-)
Ciao

USB 3.0 disks cannot be redirected from windows to OSX. You must plug the disk into a usb 2.0 hub (or port) first on the server.
And audio devices cannot be redirected to OSX.
OSX is quite limited as a client.
Hi Michael, I confirm :
Hi Michael, I confirm : plugging the disk on a USB 2.0 PCI Express card on the Windows server allowed me to access the disk, although with a different behaviour on a Windows PC and a MAC.
1) PC client : the disk showed up immediately, and the transfer speed was fairly good with 15 MB/s on a Gigabit network.
2) MAC client : the disk showed up only after 5 minutes after "using the device"...any idea ?
TBH, the disk, connected to a Windows USB 3.0 port on the server was impossible to "use" also from a Windows client, so I believe there's room for improvement here.
Anyhow, an hour ago I purchased a license. Thank you
Andrea

USB disks should work fine on windows server/client, can you tell me the disk model? Is the disk the western digital passport?
Yes it is, the :

To be honest I get your point : a USB disk is better accessed via network sharing than with VH, but if I connect from remote via VPN, maybe it can make sense alright.

I think mac is just really slow it think. The disk might have a lot of files on it. Yes you need to use something like smb instead especially over a wan/vpn
