Own 2 ShieldTV devices, is two licenses required?

I use a ShieldTV x2 which I do most of my steam streaming through from my windows PC using the steamlink app.

I have installed the windows client, and the android server app on both ShieldTV units. The client sees them both.

I was about to purchase a license however when I right click/license in the client - it looks to give me two listings "android hub s/n xxxxxxxxx, 1 device" and "android hub s/n yyyyyyyyyyy, 1 device"

Im unsure how to proceed.

If im required to buy a license for each, this is a dealbreaker for me. I realize you run a business, so if it is the case - I understand.

If I am not required to buy two separate licenses, I just need to know what I need to put in the "Paste in here --->" box.

Thanks for your time.

Yes, one license per server.

just to clarify, I cant use the same license even if i only connect to one shield unit at a time? Aka im often stuck using the shieldtv in my room due to my kids commandeering the living room television.

still I get at it when I can :P

Yes the license is only for one shield its tied to the hardware not the user account. I dont have access to any user accounts or any licensing system like nvidia gamestream or steam so i don't integrate with those

ok great, I appreciate the information. Will consider perhaps one now, one later.

I did hear about a version explicitly for steam link at one point. Was this something that operates the same way? Tied to hardware, or would/does it work with the steam link app, now that they killed the hw?

Just trying to understand my options. Since I almost exclusively use the steam link app on the shieldtv's for my streaming, was just curious if that version applied to the steam link app, or only the steam link hardware. Also if the same limit applied etc.

A lot to consider due to the fact I'll likely never leave steam, but whos to say my next set top box wont be something else which would render the license useless. best to know everything ahead of time i guess.

Thanks again

Actually valve looks after the user/licensing system as they have the infrastructure setup to do that for steam and virtualhere on steam. I dont have access to that so i cant setup accounts etc.

ok so what your saying is I would search in the steam store for it, pay for the license there, and whether they support it on multiple units is up to them? Will start digging into it from that direction.

I guess either side would have its pro's n cons. Assuming valve allowed virtual here and multiple units through steam - that would be great. It would come at the caveat of only being able to use it through steam.

Whereas if i purchased the android license, I would have to purchase multiple licenses & i'd be limited to android, but at least would be able to use it outside of steam.

Hrm.

thanks for bearing with the incessant questioning :)

hmmmm.
it seems virtualhere + steamlink app requires the android version from the store and it just sort-of piggybacks on it?

So does this mean if i were to purchase from the steam store, id still be stuck purchasing the android version as the steam version from the steam store doesnt apply?

so confusing....
