Novation Launchpad Mk2 not sending/receiving midi messages over VirtualHere OSX

I am trying to use a Novation Launchpad Mk2 USB Midi controller on a remote instance of Ableton Live. The Launchpad shows up on VirtualHere client list as well as in the Audio Midi setup. Ableton Live sees the device in the preferences, but the Launchpad does not light up and it won't send or receive midi messages. Any thoughts?

Server:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Mac 0S 10.13.6

Client:
MacMini (2018)
3.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Mac OS 10.14.2
Ableton Live 10

I dont think it is compatible with virtualhere unfortunately

Oh ok, that's too bad. Do you have any suggestions for a similar USB Midi controller that is compatible?

I actually this it is OSX that has trouble because it not fully supported by virtualhere anymore. (A windows client would would probably work fine)

Can the server still be OSX, or do both the client and server need to be windows?

I think the server can still be osx, i suspect its the osx client side
